Hello everyone!
We have been busy since last year's race event, Fabulous with 47 5K!
We have formalized our organization and broadened our mission. Fabulous with 47 has grown into SEE THE ABILITY, Inc. See the Ability's mission is to promote the inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities within the Southern Maryland community by fostering education and workforce training for these individuals and those who work with them. We will also facilitate successful employment and safe housing opportunities for further independence.
We are very fortunate to have the expertise and energy from our board of directors. Our Directors are myself, Howie Grube, Barry Friedman, Rocco Aiello, Amy Werblow and Lindsay Newcomb. We are excited to see what this next year brings for our organization and to see what opportunities we can provide to fulfill our mission!
This year's event will bring back the flat, friendly 5K, the Kids' 1K, and we will add field games like pumpkin shotput, haybale hurdles and cornhole.
We will also have another self-advocate speaker presentation at 1:00 pm.. This year's speaker is Dillon Kelly, a local self-advocate. We are thrilled to have Dillon speak at the event and we cannot wait to hear about his experiences in education, employment and our community. Please stay after both races for his presentation in the Courtyard at 1:00 pm.
Slack Wine will be available for tasting and Kelly Guilfoyle of Lotus Kitchen will bring her delicious cuisine to feed the hungry slack and fielders....
As always, the race is FREE to attend and donations will be graciously accepted on our Crowdrise page at www.crowdrise.com/slackandfield.
Prizes for top team and top individual fundraiser are on the website...hint, hint: time and wine at WOODLAWN!
